From Concept To Award-Winning Product
2005
An Idea Is Born
Protectif was born from the dissatisfaction and frustrations of using the medical risk rating tools available at that time. These tools often grouped conditions too broadly, failing to reflect how individual health conditions were managed.
Too often, anyone with cancer, for example, was either immediately declined cover or offered prohibitively expensive rates.
2006
Protectif V1 is Built
Protectif launched on a single scheme. It focused on medications as a more accurate way to understand risk. Around this time, Lloyd’s underwriter Fiona Macrae was seeking to develop a new travel insurance offering for people with cancer, inspired by her own experience. Fiona joined Protectif and helped further develop the tool.
2007
InsuranceWith Launches on Protectif
InsuranceWith launched as a pivotal scheme for Protectif, showing how the platform could address serious medical conditions more fairly.
By 2025, InsuranceWith has become a multi-award-winning scheme, recognised for its service and customer care.
2013
Bespoke Screenings Begin
We launched our 1-2-1 screenings to personalise medical assessments. Over 2,000 bespoke screenings are now completed annually.
This option gives insurers flexibility to adapt risk assessments to their appetite.
2018
Protectif Gains Momentum
Recognition continued to grow. Protectif secured partnerships with leading brands and was even mentioned in Parliament for best practice in assessing mental health conditions.
Ongoing success fed directly into platform enhancements through our feedback loop.
2022
Vision For The Future
Work began on Protectif, focusing on streamlining the customer journey and improving API integration.
We envisioned the change Protectif could lead throughout the industry, promoting fairness and transparency in medical risk rating.

We’ve launched a new and improved Protectif, designed to give insurers and distributors even greater flexibility and a more modern approach to medical risk rating.
